When Krannert Center for the Performing Arts opened at the University of Illinois in 1969 it was widely viewed as the finest university venue of its type. While still retaining its preeminent status, new technologies and emerging interdisciplinary initiatives now present an opportunity for Krannert Center to expand its mission to meet the creative demands of the next 50 years. Krannert North, a new companion building, will extend the capabilities of the current facilities, focusing on experimental and multidisciplinary endeavors, while providing additional space for the study and reinterpretation of traditional performance types.
